Visual Perception 1

Anyone who tries to draw an object, a face, a figure, etc. in space will notice that they often misjudge the actual visible proportions, foreshortening, and spatial relationships, and that the result often bears little resemblance to the subject. Learning to see means learning to distinguish between when we simply “recognize” something familiar after it has been categorized and stored in our memory, and when we actually perceive it impartially and originally, thus having a real visual experience.

This drawing course enables you to capture the things you want to depict with all their optical foreshortening in a linear way and to learn to trust your eye again. You will be given observation strategies that you can use to check your perception when necessary in order to truly encounter things with “open eyes.”
